'Towards 5-Sigma', for cello & piano, was premiered on April 28th 2013 at St Mary's, Perivale, West London UK - performed by the American cellist Lois Mattson, with the composer at the piano.
Taking as its inspiration the decades-long hunt by quantum physicists for the elusive 'Higgs Boson' sub-atomic particle, (some term it the 'God-Particle'), the term '5-Sigma' describes the ultimate level of proof required to confirm its discovery, based on a balance of probabilities. Scientists at CERN in Switzerland now believe that their striving has been rewarded...

Hello, My name is Barbara Thornton but I used to be Barbara Lowe. My sister, Janet and I grew up with Lois Mattson and I am trying to contact her. A good friend of mine, a cellist, is to be in Italy for 6-8 weeks this summer and I wondered if Lois would be able/willing to visit with her sometime. If you would, please let Lois know my e-mail address and let her know I would like to correspond. Thanks, Barbara (Lowe) Thornton
